Ellene Lammers is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with many years of experience working with individuals of all ages. She is in private practice in Vernon Hills, IL and specializes in discernment counseling, collaborative divorce coaching, and divorce mediation. Discernment counseling is a newer approach for couples who are are not sure what the best path forward would be—trying to decide if they should continue trying to work on their marriage of if divorce might be the best option for them. For those who have made the decision to divorce, collaboration and mediation are respectful and cooperative processes which encourage constructive communication so that the agreements made are acceptable to both individuals. Ellene became a Fellow of Collaborative Divorce Illinois in 2012 and also completed her Family and Divorce Mediation training through DePaul University in 2012. Ellene received her BS in Family Services and Sociology from Northern Illinois University- DeKalb and received her MSSW from the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She has been employed on an inpatient psychiatric unit, as well as an inpatient general medical/surgical unit in the past. Ellene has also taught communication skills to parents and their children for the National Institute of Health (NIH). In addition, she has worked with families experiencing many different types of crises including physical illness, psychiatric illness, and alcohol and other drug use/abuse. Ellene has been a social work field instructor for Loyola University and the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). She has received honors for her excellent teaching abilities. Ellene is especially skilled in working with couples who are allowing barriers and recurring past emotional issues to impede the progress of their divorce. She is a member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW), Collaborative Divorce Illinois (CDI), the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), and the Mediation Council of Illinois. Ellene is on the Board of Directors for the Mediation Council of Illinois and facilitates a monthly practice group for Collaborative Divorce Illinois. In the past, she has co-chaired the NASW Shared Interest Group relating to mediation. Ellene has become a coach and assists in the training of new mediators at Northwestern University, and is also a faculty member for Collaborative Divorce Illinois. In this role, she teaches collaborative skills to mental health professionals, financial neutrals, and attorneys.
I teach couples communication skills so that they can make better decisions for themselves. I offer support, guidance, and education to couples who believe that divorce is the best option for them.
